Abstract

The article contains the main results of content analysis of leading Russian academic journals in the field of media and journalism studies. The data was collected from the sample consisting of 831 articles published in 2012−2016 with separate analysis of 188 articles related to various aspects of the effects of digitalization on media organizations, work, texts and consumption. All bibliographies, full texts and abstracts of the articles were examined. The revealed trends demonstrate that there is still minimal departure from the core theoretical background of the Russian academic discourse, mainly in lesser usage of traditional normative approaches. At the same time one can witness almost zero activity in adaptation of modern theories vital for digital media studies that are broadly used in international academic community.

Keywords: meta-study, media research, media theories, research article, scientific discourse, theoretical background, content analysis.
