Abstract

The article raises the question of the typological features of modern Italian visual arts magazines. The study is based on the assumption that there is a connection between development in the art-field of the country and the transformation of national magazines about visual arts. Using the magazines published within the period from 2010 to 2016 as an empirical basis, and drawn on the methods of typological analysis, the author develops a classification of Italian visual arts magazines which includes the study of the target-function of the magazines, the specifics of the audience and the publication frequency. The developed classification shows that Italian visual arts magazines have a clear profiling, they are cognizant of their mission and target audience, although they also have some typological difficulties. The author believes that the study of Italian visual arts periodicals and their typological features will be useful for the Russian media of the similar thematic category while in the process of self-identification.
